KR 1881
KR John Francis Shea founds the J.F. Shea Plumbing Company, a one-man plumbing shop based in Portland, Oregon. From these humble beginnings, the company has grown into what is now one of the nation’s largest and oldest privately owned construction companies.

AW 1900-1929
AW The company expands its work into major sewer and water supply construction jobs. Due to this growing diversity, in 1915 the company changes its name to J.F. Shea Company, Inc. In 1926, the Sheas land a series of major public works projects, starting with the Portland Seawall, Mokelummne Pipeline, and Owyhee Irrigation Project.

1930-1949
The Sheas contribute to larger now-iconic works, such as the Hoover Dam and Golden Gate Bridge. Then in 1933, the J.F. Shea Co. moves headquarters to Los Angeles, expanding their efforts into several dam projects in the Western U.S. In 1937, the Sheas break into the East Coast with a set of tunneling projects, and in 1938 they help build ships for the war.

1950-1969
The next generation of Sheas work on the Clear Creek Tunnel and Big Cliff Diversion Tunnel, and re-incorporate in 1962 as the J.F. Shea Co., Inc. In 1965, they also aide in projects on the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system. Then, in 1968, the Sheas enter into homebuilding with Shea Homes, and start investing in companies through Shea Ventures.

1970-1999
Shea Properties starts in 1977, building and developing apartments, retail centers, and commercial property. In 1997, Shea Properties and Shea Homes acquire a huge acreage of land as part of the remaining assets of the Mission Viejo Company, and enter the active adult homebuilding arena with their Trilogy Resort Communities in 1999.

2000 - Present
Shea Properties expands its commercial portfolio in 2006 by acquiring the Denver Tech Center and Meridian International Business Center, and in 2013, J.F. Shea Construction and team win Construction Project of the Year. Shea Homes continues to expand into Florida, Nevada, Texas, Virginia, and Washington, as well as innovate home design with Shea SPACES and the launch of Shea3D.
